This is a traditional Nantucket Lightship Basket which includes the original woven hinges and closure. I have used Cherry base and lid and oak rim with fine reed lashing. The peg is also solid oak. This is a wonderful accent piece for those who love Nantucket items. The hinges and closure are made in the traditional method by wrapping leather straps with reed and attaching them to the rims. This basket takes a bit longer to make than some of the baskets that I make but it is worth the effort to capture the Nantucket Lightship tradition.
