Samples of Some Available Hardwoods

Above are four types of hardwood that are used while making these baskets. There is Walnut, Maple, Cherry and Oak. While there are other options such as rosewood, ebony or tiger wood they are very expensive to use and I only use them if requested.

The wood is cut into the appropriate sizes for the basket being maked. These bases, rims and handles will need to be sanded to a very smooth finish before applying a poly coat. The poly coat brings out the beauty of the hardwood.

The next step will be to cut the cane in the size needed for the staves of the basket. The staves are what the canes will be woven around.
